Giving beauty room to breathe.

Today's 5 Minute Fridays prompt is: Beautiful.

Could we be more carefree and love our body's signature shade of beauty?

No more insecurities for make-up free days, real skin color, real hair color, curly hair or straight hair.

I mean seriously do our eyelashes have to touch the sky, our hair color always come out of a box, and our skin be ever so flawless? Can't we just relax our standards a little bit?

I have nearly invisible short eyelashes, crooked teeth, dishwater blonde hair, sometimes frizzy, always curly hair. I don't live up to the ideals.

 So am I still beautiful? Am I still lovable?

These questions can haunt each one of us as we buy into the lie of a one size fits all beauty standard. As we buy into the lie of beauty must be controlled. Or the big lie we must be perfect to be loved.

Let's give beauty some truth and just let beauty be.

I have sun-kissed freckles, clear blue eyes, a smile that lights up a room, soft hair that is my own color, smooth pale skin, and somehow that's plenty good. This beauty is mine to share.

{Readers, how do you get comfortable in your own skin? We'd love your lessons here.}

  1. Hi Rachel, I'm visiting from FMF! I loved your first line "our body's signature shade of beauty" and that you had the confidence to list your own traits. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  2. Hi there! I've found just getting older has mellowed me out A LOT. With two little ones, I just don't have (as much) time to obsess like I did when I was a teenager. I mean, I still freak out sometimes, but I'd like to think those moments a fewer and farther between than they used to be. Hopefully, I'll continue to just chill out, ya know?

    Have a blessed weekend!

  4. I too have nearly invisible eyelashes and there is not a mascara out there that can trully lengthen them...only make them visible to the naked eye. LOL! Lovely post from a lovely woman! Thanks for sharing!

  5. It would be brave and bold of all of us to recognize our beauty like you did. We all know our imperfections but do we know our beauty? Such a good simple post that is so powerful and gives me a little more courage to embrace the beauty within...and without! Blessings to you! Love, Rachael @ Inking the Heart
