Joyfully Ever After.

Today's 5 Minute Fridays prompt is After.

Sometimes when my husband works late I watch some television junk food: reality shows. I recently caught an episode of "My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding" and it sort of broke my heart. A young girl was getting married and having the time of her life at her dream event. Her mother was interviewed and very sadly said something like, "Let her have her big day today. But tomorrow she'll wake up and it'll be cleaning and cooking and raising babies." The way she said it implied the fairy tale would be over.

And yes it's true the romance of the planning and the beautiful day itself will be gone tomorrow. And I too remember feeling the disappointment of going from a wedding high to an every day buzz. But her mother's wrong. There's so much to look forward to if they invest well in their relationship. There's beauty in sharing a life, even as it's full of the every day responsibilities of earning an income, keeping up a home, and raising a family. Her marriage can be so very beautiful, dare I say even more beautiful than it's current bliss, AFTER her wedding day.

with redeeming hands,

  1. This is beautiful Rachel. Too many times we highlight to beauty of the romance and don't remember the beauty of ordinary days! These are words to keep in mind.

  4. Rachel, The beauty in reconciliation after the first fight, or the beauty of doing the dishes after extending hospitality to friends is seeing beauty in the ordinary relationship building of life! You are so right...if invested correctly beauty is just beginning to be created after the wedding day! My husband and I did not always make good choice those early years of life and things got really ugly, but with redemption and restoration our life together is turning into a really beautiful and blessed thing. Blessings to you this week, Rachael from Inking the Heart
